About 24 hours later, the manifesto now has 23k signers, all onchain, regulated by a simple smart contract.

I like doing data analysis, and this one's easy and free.

1. does the chain unveil some interesting facts about Ethereum users 👀

It's free and straightforward to download the first 5,000 transactions from Etherscan. You can open the .csv file in LibreOffice.

Notice the column which shows $ amount paid per transaction[^1]. It's eye-popping, because I remember my wallet asking for permission to pay about $0.01, and I can clearly see many people paid ~$0.30 to sign this manifesto.

Did my wallet deceive me? If not, why would anyone pay 30x for something that is purely symbolic, has no scarcity, and for which if you're one of the first 500 signers, there was no rush at all and it's super good?

The distribution of fees:

  • 44% of people paid $0-0.03c
  • 33% of people paid about $0.20
  • 21% of people paid about $0.30
