Micropayments are not for me today, neither as a provider nor as a user.
This may change in the future (and I attempt to explore situations below).
As a seller of content and services
I do not want to sell drips of services to AI agents. I assume that's a cutthroat market, where other sellers will optimize and/or cheat, and race against me to the bottom. I'm not a fast cutter; I'm a lazy competitor!
I do not want to sell things online, to people, for less than a dollar per transaction. Things that sell too cheaply trivialize the attention, the interaction, and the value provided. That's human psychology.
For transactions at less than a dollar, I'd rather just give it out freely for attention, or as a loss leader.
Furthermore, there is no more fair mechanism than price, to gate against abuse. You should generally charge for valuable stuff.
As a consumer of content and services
I don't find x402 (a standard designed for micropayments) to provide better UX than simply sending value perm...
