Sea Changes

Been trying to do a lot more medium-form reading (blogs), as opposed to short-form (text-based social media) or long-form (books).

I generally hate aiming for the middle; generally prefer barbells. It has been less dopamine, more of a struggle, less reward. But maybe (?) it lets my brain exist in a less noisy space, allowing signal to become clearer?

Kind of how, like, in trading, the alpha in high-frequency trading (short term) is competed away so fiercely[^1]; the market appears extremely efficient over the long term; whereas medium term trading is very difficult, not constrained, and less exploited due to structural reasons related to human needs for capital.


I think the history books will record a few transformational changes over my lifetime. Am not that interested in the obvious ones: the internet and the emergence of the global hive mind; possible false illusion of The End of History and the transformation of the Chinese population's experience of life on this earth; flying car...
