Blockchain data is transparent and immutable. I think people (it me!) will overinterpret it as trustworthy, internally consistent, or useful-for-drawing-statistical-inference.
Around the edges, there will be un-careful but repeatable + verifiable data analysis. And there will be an ecosystem of skilled narrative spinners who are good at navigating those edges.
It happens with data analysis on public companies, but there is usually another powerful layer of incentives and capital to police false narratives. And frankly, due to gatekeeping to participate in the industry, there is generally a higher bar for numeracy and knowledge of statistical techniques, amongst people working for hedge funds, than amongst online blowhards. Although the quality of the best online information is actually really high!
Sharing a useful public dataset, which as the sands of time drip away, will lose nuance in the public conversation.
